I often find myself having to explain the cost of my cakes, despite dedicating most of my website to illustrating that I am all about superior quality and taste in my cakes.
It disheartens me somewhat when I attend an event where a 'cheapie' cake is being served - and drawing all sorts of "Ooohs" and "Aaahs" from the people eating it.
After much research around this, I've learned that most people don't really know the difference between a good cake and a bad cake - because we've all become so used to the taste of the artificial ingredients that load our diets everyday. Most people get their sweet kicks from mass produced cakes and pastries from supermarkets or chain outlets - or make their own - from a packet! Whilst there's a place for this, you'd never find packet mixes or cheap shortcuts in my cakes.
My cakes are all made 100% from scratch using fresh ingredients. Real free range eggs, real natural butter, real full cream milk. My cakes have at least 2-4 layers of filling - all made with my own homemade sauces, syrups and meringue buttercreams. And my cakes are always wrapped in a blanket of premium couveture chocolate ganache.

So the next time you're wondering how to choose a cake decorator for your event, remember the old addage rings true....when it comes to cake.... you get what you pay for.
